THE ANA LOG &
OTHER ANOMALIES

by Michael Gray Baughan
Independent Legions Publishing

A weird host is gathering at the borders of the known world, beyond the zones of comfort and certainty. Dark harbingers of a dark age. Flickering on the periphery. Strange and awesome and terrific, in the oldest senses of the words. Most of us keep our heads trained down or forward, hoping not to notice. But some are wired for wider vision. Some, by choice or circumstance, cannot help but turn their heads and look. In the hands and minds of these troubled individuals, technology becomes an engine of doom and revelation. Relationships fracture and release ancient entities. Bodies grow new limbs. Sleeping monsters and vestigial senses awaken, granting greater capacities for fear and wonder. Inventions and experiments go horribly awry.

The Ana Log & Other Anomalies documents thirteen incursions of the aberrant and the uncanny into lives already in flux. Thirteen tall tales told to frighten and entertain, but also field books of expeditions in search of those more elusive emotions that can make weird fiction such a transformative medium. Come inside if this sounds like fun. Fair warning, friend: the price of entry is low, but the exit may cost you everything.

STILL OF WINTER
An Unsettling Reads Anthology
Edited by Robin Knabel & H. Dair Brown

In winter, there’s a stillness – a silence. As wet snowflakes fall, sounds are muffled. A hush lingers in the air. Bare trees reach upward from the frozen ground, grasping with their spindly branches. Swaying in the frigid breeze, brittle bark creaks and moans as the trees whisper ancient secrets to one another. Sentries, standing in the stillness. Watching. Learning new stories to share with each other long after we have gone.

This winter, we want to celebrate these majestic beings and what happens when the stillness is disturbed.

SURREAL SOUTH '13
Edited by Josh Woods
Press 53

Welcome to the Surreal South, the dream of the nation within the nation, the world within the world, shadowed by all the unmitigated horrors and illuminated by all the dubious glories of its distant and ill-remembered past, a puzzle, a slightly gruesome enticement, a boundless ambiguity, an enduring paradox, and an endless source of myth. Hitting shelves this Halloween.
